Ryan Nixon
Investment experience:
University of Texas
Ryan is the founder of the firm and leads the firm’s Investment Team, portfolio construction, research process and risk-management controls. He also manages the firm’s investment-analyst intern program. Ryan founded the firm after earning his MBA at the University of Texas at Austin. Prior to graduate school, he spent three years as an equity analyst for Hester Capital Management. Ryan earned a BA from the University of Texas at Austin. Ryan has served on the MSF Advisory Council and the MBA Advisory Board for the University of Texas, and was the chair of Austin PBS.
Mercer Proctor
University of Texas
Mercer holds the position of both Chief Compliance Officer and Chief Operation Officer. She joins after working in advertising for over seven years. She previously worked at Bumble where she managed their brand media strategy and spending. Prior to that, she was at McGarrah Jessee, an advertising agency in Austin, where she planned and executed media campaigns for clients with varying business objectives and helped to pitch new business for the company. Mercer attended the University of Texas at Austin where she earned a BA in Public Relations.
Alex Gouws
Investment experience:
Columbia University
Alex is a investment analyst and member of the Investment Team. He recently graduated from Columbia University where he majored in Financial Economics and concentrated in Philosophy. While at Columbia, Alex served as the president of his fraternity Phi Gamma Delta for two years and was captain of the Rugby team. He interned at Nixon Capital during the summer of 2021 and joined the firm in August of 2022. Alex grew up in South Africa, spent his middle years in London and New York, and is now excited about living in Austin.
Ray Nixon
Investment experience:
University of Texas
Ray was previously the Executive Director and a Portfolio Manager at Barrow, Hanley, Mewhinney, & Strauss, LLC, where he spent 25 years. When Ray retired, Barrow Hanley was one of the largest value-oriented managers of institutional assets in the U.S. with over $75 billion under management. Ray is currently serving as Chair of the Texas Health Resources Investment Committee and he is also a member of the UTIMCO board of directors, an approximately $60 billion endowment for the University of Texas and Texas A&M University.
Internship Information
Nixon Capital has a formal internship program for both undergraduate and graduate students. We seek to hire curious and resourceful students from all different educational backgrounds and disciplines who demonstrate a willingness to learn. Interns will work alongside our team to research investment opportunities.
